Artist Statement
Jenny is primarily a ceramics artist though she also works with fibers and dabbles in a variety of other mediums. She loves spending time in nature, where she finds inspiration from the things she observes there- forms, patterns, shapes, and colors. Jenny has made a home in the Upper Peninsula for the past 21 years, living in Marquette and more recently Gwinn, Mi. Her favorite time of the day is early morning when the rest of the world is quiet and still. She lives on Blue Lake in Gwinn and enjoys seeing the sunrise over the water and spending those early hours in her home studio creating pottery. These sentiments inspired her studio name “Blue Lake Sunrise Pottery.” Jenny's pottery is both wheel-thrown and slab-constructed by hand; she often prints patterns, textures and handmade drawings on her clay slab pieces. Her intention is to create pottery that can be used daily to help commemorate our daily routines and rituals, such as enjoying our morning coffee. She hopes her handmade and unique pottery will add a bit of joy to the day of those who are using it. Along with being a ceramics artist Jenny is also a K-12 art teacher. She is currently in her 9th year teaching elementary art in Gwinn, Michigan. Jenny has participated in many art shows and festivals in Michigan over the past 15 years. Jenny received her BFA in cera-mics from Northern Michigan University in 2007. She returned to NMU to completed the K-12 Art education program in 2012.
