Catherine Brunet
Painting and Mixed Media
The paintings of Catherine Brunet are brought to life at her studio in the historic city of Marquette, along the shores of Lake Superior, in the northern reaches of Michigan. She has always lived near Lake Superior and been influenced by this area;s natural beauty and the four seasons.
Inspiration for her painting often comes from organic forms derived from the forces of nature. It is the feeling, the spiritual essence of an image that she captures, lending an ethereal mood to a scene, place or human form. When by the lake, she absorbs the overall impression of water, the pattern made in the sand, the light refracting through the waves, or the waves crashing against rocks. The paintings are partially non-objective, layers of transparent glazes that culminate into luscious hues.
Catherine started drawing at the age of six, fostered by Sister Maria Cabrini, who recognized her potential and piqued her interest in her lifelong passion, art. She attended Northern Michigan University, concentrating in drawing and painting. Her informal education exploring water media has been with an incredible array of artists including Nita Engle, Kathleen Conover, Carl Mayer, Many Ann Beckwith, and Sharon Crosby.
She has garnered many awards from juried exhibitions and has several one-person shows. Her works are in private collections in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona, New Jersey, Colorado, California, Florida and Canada. Her personal collection can be viewed at E'clectique Atelier at 147 W Washington St, the Upper Level in Marquette, MI.
